In a continued effort to enhance public safety, Council Member Sandra Ung has announced the installation of seven new security cameras around Kissena Corridor Park—an initiative she spearheaded and funded to support crime deterrence and improve investigative tools for law enforcement.

“Improving safety around Kissena Corridor Park has been a priority of mine,” Ung stated. “In addition to allocating millions for greenway improvements, I announced at the 109th Precinct Community Council meeting that 7 cameras I provided funding for were recently installed around the park.”

While acknowledging that surveillance alone cannot eliminate crime, Ung emphasized the role of the cameras in both prevention and justice. “While the cameras won’t stop every crime from occurring, they will hopefully serve as a deterrent to some, as well as help police investigate and solve crimes when they unfortunately do take place,” she added.

During the community meeting, Ung also took the opportunity to recognize the outstanding efforts of four NYPD officers: John Shapiro, Ryan Costello, Daniel Mirable, and Aiden Donnelly. Each was honored for exemplary service in the line of duty.

“A big thanks to them for their exemplary service and selfless dedication to keeping our neighborhoods safe!” Ung said, praising their contributions to public safety in the community.

The installation of the cameras and the recognition of officers underscore Ung’s continued commitment to making Queens neighborhoods safer and more secure for all residents.
