“My office joined the Korean Community Services of Metropolitan New York, Inc. (KCS) Older Adult Center for their annual holiday party. There was singing, dancing and red bean porridge, which is traditionally served during Dongji, the Korean celebration of the Winter Solstice. It was a great way to get in the holiday spirit!”
The event featured traditional Korean elements, including Dongji festivities, which mark the Winter Solstice with warmth and camaraderie. Guests enjoyed a vibrant atmosphere filled with music, dance, and the symbolic red bean porridge, believed to bring good luck and ward off negative energy.
Council Member Ung’s presence highlighted her commitment to engaging with diverse communities and celebrating their cultural traditions. The joyous gathering not only spread holiday cheer but also reinforced the importance of cultural exchange and unity during the festive season.
