In a significant effort to support families in need, Council Member Sandra Ung personally delivered a carload of baby formula and other essential supplies to the South Asian Council for Social Services (SACSS) on 45th Avenue.
Sharing the news on Thursday, Ung emphasized the importance of community-driven initiatives in ensuring food security for vulnerable families. “On Thursday, I delivered a carload of baby formula and other supplies to the South Asian Council for Social Services on 45th Avenue. They in turn will be distributed to families in our community through the group’s food pantry, which is open twice a week,” she stated.
SACSS, known for its dedication to serving immigrant and underserved communities, plays a crucial role in providing resources to local residents. Ung expressed gratitude to the organization’s leadership, adding, “Thanks to executive director Sudha Acharya and the entire team at SACSS (which now speaks 20 different languages!) for the critical work they do in the Flushing community.”
The SACSS food pantry, open twice a week, has been a lifeline for many struggling families, especially amid economic challenges. With a multilingual team capable of assisting residents in 20 languages, the organization continues to bridge gaps and offer vital support in one of New York City’s most diverse neighborhoods.
