FBI report reveals 11.6% drop in murder rates, largest decline in 20 years

The FBI has just released its latest national crime report, showcasing a remarkable 11.6% decrease in murder and manslaughter rates for 2023.

This significant decline marks the largest drop in nearly two decades, signaling a pivotal shift in national crime trends.

The report indicates that overall violent crime has also seen a reduction of 3%, continuing a trend of declines for the second consecutive year. These figures bring violent crime rates back to pre-pandemic levels, aligning closely with the historic lows observed in 2019.

Importantly, while not all crimes are reported, the FBI maintains that all murders and violent crimes are accounted for in their statistics. This comprehensive approach ensures that the data reflects an accurate representation of the nation’s safety landscape.

Covering 94% of the U.S. population, the latest data provides a detailed overview of crime trends across the country, highlighting a substantial stride towards enhanced public safety.
