In a strong statement against gang violence in New York City, Mayor Eric Adams announced the takedown of more than a dozen members of the notorious 800 YGZ gang operating in the Bronx.
The announcement, made alongside Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, signals a major step forward in the city’s ongoing battle against organized crime and street violence.
“We will NOT surrender our city to violent criminals,” Mayor Adams declared. “Today, with Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark and Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, we announced the takedown of more than a dozen members of the 800 YGZ gang in the Bronx. Twenty individuals are charged for 15 acts of violence in a 73-count indictment.”
Authorities revealed that the gang was linked to a series of violent crimes, including murder, attempted murder, and reckless endangerment. The coordinated investigation and law enforcement action have already led to the arrest of 17 individuals, with efforts underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.
“This gang was involved in murder, attempted murder, and reckless endangerment,” Adams emphasized.
“Seventeen of them are already in custody, and the NYPD will find and arrest the others involved. Let us be clear: we will find criminals in our city and stop them.”
The mayor’s statement highlights a no-tolerance stance on violent crime and reiterates his administration’s commitment to restoring safety and security to all neighborhoods across the five boroughs.
