In a significant move to enhance public safety on New York City’s subway system, Mayor Eric Adams announced the deployment of additional officers on overnight shifts.

Sharing his observations from a recent ride on the L train, Mayor Adams emphasized the administration’s commitment to ensuring safer commutes for residents during late-night hours.

“I was out on the L train tonight as we send a new wave of officers on overnight shifts on the subway this week,” the mayor stated.

The initiative, backed by a collaboration with Governor Kathy Hochul, aims to bolster commuter confidence and security across the city’s transit system. Mayor Adams expressed gratitude for the state’s financial support in expanding the overnight police presence.

“Governor Kathy Hochul and I know that New Yorkers need to feel safe when riding the train, and we’re appreciative of the state’s partnership in helping pay to put more officers on overnight trains,” he added.

Once fully implemented, the plan will ensure that two officers are present on every subway train in the city between 9 PM and 5 AM, a move that is expected to significantly deter crime and enhance passenger safety during late-night hours.
