Mayor Adams Pays Tribute to Fallen Detective Didarul Islam, Hails Him as a Symbol of Hope and Sacrifice

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has paid a heartfelt tribute to fallen NYPD Detective Didarul Islam, reflecting on his sacrifice, family, and the values he embodied as an immigrant and public servant.

“Today, we came together to honor the life of fallen NYPD Detective Didarul Islam,” Adams began, expressing his deep sorrow over the loss. “As a father, I am so sorry for his death because the pain of parents burying their child is so immense and intense. No one should ever lay their own son to rest.”

Detective Islam, who leaves behind his wife, two young sons, and a third child on the way, was remembered not only as a dedicated officer but as a man of faith and purpose. “It’s a tragedy that his child will never meet their heroic father,” Adams lamented, adding, “I pray deeply for his entire family.”

Adams emphasized that Islam’s life was a powerful representation of the American dream and selfless service. “Through all the pain, I recognize that Detective Islam’s life symbolized the best of our country: an immigrant who came to the United States and chose to give back. He could’ve done anything, but wanted to join the NYPD and protect his city.”

Reflecting on the unity seen at the memorial, Adams remarked, “His life, career, and devotion fills me with hope. I feel optimism seeing that all people can come together for the greater good. If we can all gather in a mosque to remember him, we can bring that spirit to every synagogue, church, temple, and corner of New York City.”

The Mayor concluded by highlighting his own faith and the inspiration he draws from others: “My faith has seen me through the hardest struggles. It’s taught me to see God in other people. Detective Islam had God in him, and everyone who knew him saw that. We can carry that gift with us to live out his legacy, taking care of each other and protecting one another.”

Detective Didarul Islam’s memory, Mayor Adams said, will endure as a guiding light for a more compassionate and united city.
