NYC Health + Hospitals celebrates milestone in lung cancer screening

NYC Health + Hospitals proudly announced that it has performed over 10,000 lung cancer scans since launching its Lung Cancer Screening program in September 2022.

This initiative is particularly vital, as lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death for both men and women. Disturbingly, more lives are lost to lung cancer each year than to breast, prostate, and colon cancers combined.

The screening process utilizes a low-dose computerized tomography (CT) scan, a sophisticated diagnostic imaging tool that employs x-rays to create detailed images of the inside of the body.

The effectiveness of this method has been well-documented, with studies showing that it dramatically increases survival rates for lung cancer patients.

This milestone highlights NYC Health + Hospitals’ commitment to early detection and improved outcomes in the fight against lung cancer.
