100 guns off NYC streets, Citywide CRT nabs armed suspect in 40th Precinct

In a decisive response to escalating violence and quality-of-life concerns, the Citywide Community Response Team (CRT) strategically deployed officers to New York’s 40th Precinct, leading to a high-stakes encounter that ended with the removal of a loaded firearm from the streets.

While patrolling in an unmarked vehicle, officers observed a group of men openly drinking in the middle of the afternoon.

According to the CRT, “one male looked at the car and asked our officers if they had a problem, removed a loaded firearm, and held the gun in front of his waistband.”

The situation escalated quickly as the CRT officers drew their weapons, moving to apprehend the suspect, who was immediately taken into custody. Officers seized the loaded firearm, preventing a potentially deadly incident.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect had a history of gun-related offenses and an open indictment warrant from Kings County Supreme Court for another gun case.

This incident marks a significant milestone for the Citywide CRT, which has now removed its 100th illegal gun from New York City streets in 2024.

The unit’s proactive presence continues to play a critical role in enhancing safety and curbing violence in local neighborhoods.
