Tragic fatal stabbing at East Harlem rehab center, 42-year-old resident charged with murder

A 41-year-old man was fatally stabbed at an East Harlem rehabilitation facility on Thursday, and authorities have charged a fellow resident, 42-year-old Julian Parks, with murder.

Police responded to the incident at about 2 p.m. at Odyssey House, a six-story building on E. 121st Street, where they discovered the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds to the chest and torso.

Emergency Medical Services rushed the victim to Harlem Hospital, but he was later pronounced dead. His name has not been publicly released as authorities continue to notify family members.

According to police, the stabbing took place during an argument between the two men.

Parks, who also resides at Odyssey House, fled the scene, but officers tracked him down to the Upper West Side and arrested him around 12:30 a.m. on Friday. He faces charges of murder and weapons possession, with his arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court pending.

Odyssey House provides housing for individuals participating in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs, offering a supportive community environment. An email sent to Odyssey House for comment on the incident was not immediately returned.

The tragic incident has brought renewed attention to safety concerns in residential rehab facilities.
