In a monumental step to enhance public safety and community relations, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, NYPD Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch, and Department of Design and Construction (DDC) Commissioner Thomas Foley officially opened the 116th Precinct Station House in Southeast Queens.

The nearly $105 million facility, located at 244-04 North Conduit Avenue, marks the first entirely new NYPD command established in over a decade, since 2013.

The new precinct, which will cover Rosedale, Springfield Gardens, Brookville, and Laurelton, aims to significantly reduce police response times and bolster police visibility in these neighborhoods, which were previously served by the 105th and 113th precincts.

Mayor Adams emphasized the importance of safety for all New Yorkers, stating: “Every New Yorker should know that they can send their kids to school or shop in their local store and come home safely to their family and their community. The people of Rosedale, Springfield Gardens, Brookville, and Laurelton are getting the station house they need and deserve, and this new station will deepen the bonds between the NYPD and the community.”

The 45,000-square-foot facility offers cutting-edge features for both law enforcement and the community. It includes a muster room, booking and detention areas, a front desk, and a private stress-reduction room for officers. The station also houses a community meeting space equipped with furniture, a kitchenette, and audio-visual technology, making it only the second precinct to have such a space, after the 40th Precinct in the South Bronx.

Commissioner Tisch highlighted the practical benefits of the new precinct: “This new police precinct greatly enhances the ability of NYPD officers to effectively and efficiently deliver on our core mission of making people safe, making them feel safe, and improving their quality of life.” She added, “The residents and workers in this area of Queens now have access to the station house they require and the level of service they deserve.”

Designed by Dattner Architects through the DDC’s Design and Construction Excellence program, the precinct integrates sustainability features such as solar panels and electric vehicle charging stations, earning it a LEED Gold certification. The facility is also fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), ensuring accessibility for all.

The opening of the precinct is the culmination of decades-long advocacy from the community. Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. praised this achievement, saying: “For more than four decades, Southeast Queens residents have been pushing for faster emergency response times and stronger relationships with the officers who have sworn to serve them. I could not be prouder to have delivered this $100 plus million state-of-the-art investment in trust, justice, and community development.”

NYPD Captain Jean Beauvoir, formerly of the 105th Precinct, has been appointed to lead the new command. Local leaders, including U.S. Representative Gregory W. Meeks and New York State Assemblymember Jenifer Rajkumar, lauded the development as a crucial step toward improved public safety.

Assemblymember Rajkumar noted, “The people of Rosedale, Springfield Gardens, Brookville, and Laurelton will now enjoy unprecedented safety with more officers patrolling their blocks and responding faster.”

With the opening of the 116th Precinct, Southeast Queens moves into a new era of safety, stronger community-police relations, and enhanced quality of life for its residents.
