Councilwoman Paladino criticizes proposed law mandating NYPD officers to live in city limits

In a post on her X space, Councilwoman Vickie Paladino has voiced her strong opposition to a proposed law that would require New York Police Department (NYPD) officers to reside within city limits.

Paladino’s expressed her concerns about the implications of such legislation on the police force and public safety.

She stated, “Progressives want to pass a law making it mandatory for NYPD officers to live in the city limits. Part of the reason is so their activist shock troops can show up at their house in the middle of the night and harass them.”

Paladino further elaborated on her apprehensions, asserting, “The other part of the reason is that they know most police officers don’t want to subject themselves to this and cannot afford to live in the five boroughs anyway, so it will immediately halve the size of the police force.”

Her comments highlight the ongoing debate surrounding police residency requirements and their potential impact on law enforcement’s effectiveness in New York City.
