In a shocking and dangerous turn of events, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and his family were forced to evacuate the official Governor’s Residence in the early hours of Sunday after a suspected arsonist set the property on fire.
Governor Shapiro recounted the terrifying moment in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, revealing that he and his family were jolted awake by urgent knocks on the door from state authorities.
“Last night at about 2AM, my family and I woke up to bangs on the door from the Pennsylvania State Police after an arsonist set fire to the Governor’s Residence in Harrisburg,” he wrote.
According to the governor, the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire swiftly responded to the scene, battling the flames as the Pennsylvania State Police, assisted by Capitol Police, safely evacuated the First Family from the residence.
“The Harrisburg Bureau of Fire was on the scene and while they worked to put out the fire, we were evacuated from the Residence safely by Pennsylvania State Police and assisted by Capitol Police,” he said.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported. “No one was injured and the fire was extinguished,” Governor Shapiro confirmed.
The governor expressed deep gratitude to the emergency responders who put their lives on the line to protect his family. “Every day, we stand with the law enforcement and first responders who run towards danger to protect our communities. Last night, they did so for our family – and Lori and I are eternally grateful to them for keeping us safe,” he added.
The Pennsylvania State Police are currently leading the investigation into the incident and have pledged to keep the public updated as more details emerge.
The motive behind the arson remains unknown, and authorities have yet to announce any suspects or arrests.
