Bronx Launches $1.5m ‘Clean Streets are Safe Streets’ Initiative to Tackle Illegal Dumping

Bronx Borough President, Vanessa Gibson, has announced a $1.5 million investment to combat illegal dumping across the borough through the installation of new security cameras.

Gibson made the disclosure during a joint campaign with city agencies and community groups, stressing that mattresses, furniture, and other household items have no place on streets, sidewalks, parks, or playgrounds.

> “Bedroom sets and mattresses belong in our homes, but they do NOT belong on our streets, in our parks, or in our playgrounds,” Gibson said. “If you dump on the Bronx, you will be held accountable. Our parks and sidewalks belong to all of us, and it’s up to each of us to help take care of them.”

The Borough President noted that the initiative, tagged “Clean Streets are Safe Streets,” will fund security cameras to be deployed by the NYPD and the New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) in hotspot areas, ensuring stronger enforcement against offenders.

She stressed that cleaner, safer environments foster community pride, reduce crime, and improve the overall quality of life for Bronx residents.

The event brought together key stakeholders, including Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark, the NYPD, DSNY, NYC Parks, NYC Department of Transportation, the Sanitation Foundation, and the volunteer group ASEZ WAO, all pledging support for the anti-dumping campaign.
