Bronx remembers, honors lives lost in Twin Parks fire on third anniversary

Today marks three years since the devastating fire at Twin Parks North West that claimed 17 lives and left a lasting scar on the Bronx community.

Borough President Vanessa Gibson led the remembrance, paying tribute to the victims, their families, and the first responders who displayed extraordinary bravery on that fateful day.

In a heartfelt statement, Gibson said, “Today marks the third anniversary of the tragic fire at Twin Parks North West, a day our borough will never forget. We honor the 17 precious lives lost, the families forever impacted, and the bravery of our first responders. This tragedy reminds us of the urgent need for fire safety education and the importance of investing in safe, quality housing for all.”

The Twin Parks fire, one of the deadliest residential fires in New York City’s history, highlighted critical issues of housing safety and fire prevention in underserved communities. Its impact has since driven discussions and initiatives aimed at ensuring such a tragedy is never repeated.

“Let us pause to reflect, remember, and keep the families of Twin Parks in our thoughts and prayers as we continue to work toward preventing such devastation in the future,” Gibson urged, underscoring the importance of community resilience and collective responsibility.

As the borough gathers to honor those lost, the tragedy serves as a somber reminder of the ongoing need for fire safety education and the push for affordable, safe housing.

The memory of the lives lost continues to inspire action toward a safer and more secure Bronx for all its residents.
