
Council Member Sandra Ung has commended the YWCA of Queens for nearly five decades of dedicated service to immigrant families and communities in Flushing and throughout Queens.
In a heartfelt message, Ung highlighted the organization’s humble beginnings and lasting impact: “The YWCA of Queens was the brainchild of nine immigrant women in 1978 who wanted to make a difference, and last week we celebrated the organization’s 47th anniversary of providing critical services and programs that help families in Flushing and across Queens.”
She extended her congratulations to those who have sustained the YWCA’s mission over the years.
“Congratulations to the executive director Eun Kyung Kim, her entire team, the board of directors, and the countless volunteers who make it all possible on reaching this milestone,” she wrote.
Ung emphasized the importance of the YWCA’s work in fostering community support and empowerment, stating:
“Their impact in our community and beyond is immeasurable!”
The YWCA of Queens has long been a cornerstone of support for immigrants, offering programs in education, job training, advocacy, and wellness.
Its 47th anniversary stands as a testament to its enduring commitment to social justice, equity, and empowerment for all.
