New York City Council Member Amanda Farias took to social media to spotlight the vibrant heartbeat of her community—local businesses—during this year’s Small Business Saturday.
In a heartfelt post, she celebrated the essential role these establishments play in fostering connections and creating cherished memories.
“Today we celebrate Small Business Saturday, a time to honor the heart and soul of our community—local businesses that serve up not just delicious food and drinks, but a welcoming spirit that makes every visit special,” Farias wrote.
“These spots are where connections are made, memories are created, and the heart of our community thrives. Let’s continue to support and appreciate the places that bring us together, one meal, one coffee, one conversation at a time.”
Farias highlighted three standout establishments in her district, each with its unique contribution to the community. First, she praised The Way Cafe, a family-owned coffee shop in Castle Hill known for its warm atmosphere and community-focused service. “First stop—The Way Cafe, a family-owned coffee shop in #CastleHill that meets service with community through coffee and snacks! You can catch me getting a latte or having a meeting in the back,” she shared. She also celebrated Lulu’s Coffee Shop, a Latino-owned diner and coffee shop that has been a Castle Hill Business Improvement District staple for over 37 years.
“Next stop—Lulu’s Coffee Shop, a #Latino-owned local diner & coffee place that is a Castle Hill Business Improvement District staple with owners serving us for over 37 years in the community! Sasha and I appreciate the collaboration and support for the BID events where they are always so willing to help us,” Farias noted with gratitude. Lastly, she spotlighted McDermott’s Pub, an Irish-owned pub in Westchester Square celebrated for its wings, beer, and community leadership.
“Last stop—McDermott’s Pub, an #Irish-owned pub in #WestchesterSquare where Mike has given us the best wings and beer in the area for over 15 years! I’m especially honored to recognize him today for how critical he’s been in keeping the Westchester Square Business Improvement District thriving with his leadership! Yasmin and I are grateful for how he’s supported our businesses and us!”
Farias’s message underscores the importance of supporting local businesses that not only serve as economic engines but also as spaces for building relationships and community pride. Small Business Saturday, observed annually on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, serves as a reminder to shop small and invest in the businesses that enrich our lives.
Her tribute to these neighborhood gems was met with widespread appreciation, as residents echoed her sentiments and pledged to continue supporting their local favorites.
