Peter Vonderhofen: Queens man arrested for attempted kidnapping of toddler

In a shocking incident that has rattled the South Richmond Hill community, a 32-year-old man was arrested this week for attempting to kidnap a 2-year-old girl. The suspect, identified as Peter Vonderhofen, approached the child’s mother while brandishing a knife, snarling, “give me your baby or I’ll stab you!”

The terrifying encounter occurred around 3 p.m. Thursday near Atlantic Avenue and 109th Street.

Fortunately, the young mother and her child were unharmed as Vonderhofen fled the scene shortly after making his menacing threat. However, police were able to apprehend him about 30 minutes later.

Upon further investigation, authorities linked Vonderhofen to two armed robberies that took place near the same intersection just a day prior. As a result, he now faces a series of serious charges, including first-degree robbery for each of the robbery incidents.

In addition to the robbery charges, Vonderhofen has been charged with second-degree attempted kidnapping, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17, and menacing in the second degree.

The string of events has left the community on edge, highlighting the pressing need for vigilance and safety.
