Suspect arrested for Upper East Side rape, burglary

Law enforcement officials have apprehended a man accused of brutally raping a woman in her Upper East Side apartment last week.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Donovan Murphy, was arrested by the Fugitive Task Force on Wednesday after allegedly using the victim’s credit cards in the Bronx.

The incident occurred on September 28, around 3:40 a.m., when Murphy is accused of breaking into the 29-year-old victim’s second-floor apartment.

Reports indicate that he violently confronted the woman, punching her in the face before proceeding to choke and rape her. After the assault, he reportedly stole her credit cards and fled the scene.

Murphy now faces a slew of serious charges, including rape, strangulation, burglary, and grand larceny, reflecting the severity of the crime committed. The police were able to track him down after he utilized the victim’s financial information, leading to his arrest at his Bronx residence.

As of Thursday afternoon, Murphy was awaiting arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court, where he will face the charges stemming from this horrific incident.

The case has drawn significant attention, highlighting the ongoing issue of violence against women and the importance of swift justice in such matters.
