“The Violence Stops With Us”: Bronx Leaders Unite Against Gun Violence

Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson has issued a powerful call to action as June marks National Gun Violence Awareness Month.

In a passionate statement shared on social media, Gibson highlighted a united front of city leadership dedicated to confronting the scourge of gun violence head-on.

“June is National Gun Violence Awareness Month, and together with Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark, NYC Schools Chancellor Melissa Avilés-Ramos, the NYPD, faith leaders, and our colleagues in government, we’re calling for real, lasting solutions to protect our youth and families,” she wrote.

Gibson outlined a multi-faceted approach to addressing gun violence in the Bronx, emphasizing community engagement, youth empowerment, and legislative advocacy. “We are connecting our young people to meaningful employment opportunities, advocating for safer school environments, beautifying our neighborhoods through clean-up initiatives, and pushing for federal legislation to remove harmful ghost guns off our streets,” she said.

The Borough President underscored the importance of collective responsibility and community solidarity in the fight for peace and safety. “Peace is a lifestyle that we not only want, but deserve! But we need your help,” she urged residents.

Gibson encouraged Bronxites to participate by wearing orange, the symbolic color of the movement, and using the hashtag #TheViolenceStopsWithUs to share their efforts and commitment to change. She also invited the public to stay informed and involved by signing up for the Bronx newsletter, which offers updates on youth services and local events.

The message from President Gibson serves as both a rallying cry and a reminder that real change begins with unified community action.
