“The Albanian Independence celebration at the New York City Council was a wonderful event honoring the great people in our communities!” she wrote. “I was proud to co-sponsor this special event, honoring the rich culture and contributions of the Albanian community with my colleagues CM Marmorato, Borelli, Carr, Feliz, Hanks, and Holden. Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating this important occasion!”

The event, held at City Hall, brought together community leaders, cultural representatives, and city officials. Red-and-black decorations symbolizing the Albanian flag adorned the venue, while traditional music and attire added a vibrant touch to the atmosphere.

The celebration highlighted the Albanian community’s resilience, cultural pride, and contributions to the Bronx and beyond. Council Member Farias’ message underscored the importance of recognizing and appreciating the unique heritages that shape New York City.

This annual observance of Albanian Independence commemorates the country’s declaration of sovereignty in 1912 and serves as a reminder of the deep-rooted connections between Albania and its diaspora communities in the United States. The event also provided an opportunity for attendees to reflect on the values of freedom and unity, which resonate deeply with Albanian history and culture.

The event success demonstrated the city’s commitment to celebrating its diverse population. Council Member Farias and her colleagues reaffirmed their dedication to fostering inclusivity and supporting communities that enrich the city’s cultural tapestry.

The Albanian Independence celebration at the New York City Council was more than an event—it was a powerful acknowledgment of the vibrant spirit and contributions of the Albanian community to New York story.
