NYPD launches probe into top cop’s sudden resignation amid sex-for-overtime allegations

A shocking scandal has rocked the New York Police Department, leading to the resignation of Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey, the NYPD’s highest-ranking uniformed officer.

Maddrey stepped down Friday night after The Post revealed allegations from Lt. Quathisha Epps, a subordinate who claimed Maddrey had sex with her in exchange for massive amounts of overtime.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has launched an investigation into the allegations, with a spokesman stating, “These are extremely serious and disturbing claims that allegedly occurred at NYPD headquarters in Manhattan. We are investigating”.

According to Epps, Maddrey’s alleged harassment began in June 2023, shortly after he assumed the role of Chief of Department. She claimed Maddrey would often proposition her, asking for sex in exchange for overtime opportunities. Epps also alleged that Maddrey coerced her into unwanted sexual acts and retaliated against her when she resisted.

Maddrey’s resignation has sent shockwaves through the NYPD, with Mayor Eric Adams describing the allegations as “extremely concerning and alarming”. The NYPD has announced plans to conduct its own investigation into the matter, with Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch stating that the department is committed to investigating sexual misconduct claims thoroughly.

The scandal has also raised questions about systemic issues within the NYPD, with Epps’ attorney, Eric Sanders, stating that Maddrey’s behavior “reflects systemic issues within the NYPD”.
