Teen charged with murder after deadly stabbing in Yonkers

A 17-year-old Yonkers resident has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder following a fatal stabbing that claimed the lives of two 16-year-old boys outside a residence on Lake Avenue Thursday night.

According to the Yonkers Police Department (YPD), officers responded to 136 Lake Avenue at approximately 8:00 PM on February 6th after receiving reports of a dispute in progress. Upon arrival, they found two teenage victims suffering from stab wounds outside the residence.

Emergency responders immediately provided medical aid and rushed the victims to area hospitals, but both succumbed to their injuries shortly after arrival.

Detectives from the Major Case Squad, Digital Forensics Unit, and Crime Scene Unit launched an investigation and quickly pieced together the events leading up to the attack.

Preliminary findings suggest that one of the victims entered the location and became involved in a verbal altercation with the suspect. The argument escalated, and the suspect produced a knife, stabbing the first victim once in the chest.

As the suspect attempted to flee, he was confronted by the second victim at the entrance. The suspect then stabbed the second victim multiple times in the abdomen and upper chest before fleeing the scene.

Through forensic evidence, surveillance footage, and witness accounts, investigators were able to track down and arrest the suspect in Yonkers on Friday, February 7th, 2025.

The suspect, whose identity has been withheld due to his age, is expected to be arraigned in the Youth Part of Westchester County Court as an Adolescent Offender on two counts of second-degree murder, an A1 felony under New York State Penal Law.

Authorities confirmed that one victim was from Yonkers, while the other was from Queens. Their identities are being withheld in accordance with laws protecting minors.

Yonkers Police Commissioner Chris Sapienza expressed condolences to the victims’ families, calling the incident a senseless act of violence that has shaken the community.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of these two young lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and loved ones during this difficult time. This is a senseless tragedy that has impacted our entire community. I would like to thank our detectives who worked swiftly and diligently to apprehend the suspect in this case.”

Authorities are still working to determine the circumstances leading up to the fatal altercation, and additional details may be released as the investigation progresses
