New York Political Coalition endorses Richie Torres for reelection

By Mutiu Olawuyi

The New York Political Coalition has endorsed the reelection campaign of Congressman Richie Torres, describing him as a proven Bronx representative with a record of inclusive constituent service, legislative delivery, and community advocacy.

In a statement issued by Sheikh Musa Drammeh, co-founder of the coalition, NYPC said Torres’ personal background and public record make him strongly positioned to continue representing the Bronx.

“Congressman Richie Torres was born and raised in the Bronx struggles,” the coalition stated. “No one, not an incumbent or a candidate, knows how to advocate and deliver for the Bronx better than him.”

The coalition praised Torres for what it described as quiet but effective legislative work, saying he performs his duties “without fanfare” while serving a district known for its racial, religious, economic, and cultural diversity.

According to NYPC, Torres’ approach to constituent service has been “all inclusive” and “unbiased,” with Muslim constituents among those who have benefited from his leadership and funding allocations.

“There is a difference between shifting campaign rhetoric and record,” the coalition said. “Mr. Torres has the record.”

The endorsement also took aim at Torres’ opponents, accusing them of shifting positions on public issues and lacking what the coalition called “moral clarity” and principled commitment to the district.

NYPC framed its support as part of its broader civic mission. The organization describes itself as a grassroots, nonpartisan coalition focused on civic engagement, voter education, and empowering local communities across New York City’s five boroughs.

The group is known for organizing community launches, public safety rallies, voter education initiatives, and efforts to increase participation in local democratic processes. Its advocacy work focuses on improving voter turnout, reducing political apathy, and supporting anti-violence and public safety initiatives in the Bronx and across the city.

For Bronx voters, the endorsement adds another community-based voice to the congressional race and highlights a recurring question in local politics: whether candidates should be judged more by campaign messaging or by measurable service, accessibility, and delivery to constituents.

The coalition said its endorsement is rooted in Torres’ record, particularly his ability to represent a diverse district while maintaining support across different communities, including Muslim constituents.

The statement was issued by Sheikh Musa Drammeh, co-founder of New York Political Coalition. The coalition can be reached at newyorkpoliticalcoalition@gmail.com or 718-822-5555.
